A few weeks ago I posted about redesigning the nav and electrical panel, and after a lot of planning and discussion, I made my final choices, placed orders, and submitted my front panel to be made. A week later everything arrived, and it was time for an epic weekend project to remove the old one, and put the new one back in.
Thanks - it definitely looked thicker than normal so that’s why I was curious - I’m looking at needing a similarly thick panel so good to know what you did
This is an amazing panel! I’m thinking of doing something similar for my (new to me) Beneteau Oceanis 323 Clipper. I was curious what your thoughts were on putting the hinge on the right side, so the panel opens like a door, instead of downward onto the table.
Thanks! I believe I chose the hinge down because that allowed everything to stay mounted and not hit anything when it opened, other than the table, which gave me the maximum amount of open area to work in there once it was at it’s extreme.
However, it would depend on what you wanted to put on the panel, and whether swinging one way or the other had anything in the way, etc. I also seem to remember it was inset a bit, so if I hinged to the left or right, that was a bit in the way…
Thanks, Steve! That’s really helpful. I’ll definitely have to give some thought to how the things that stick out from the panel could hit the adjacent bulkhead (to the head). Even if I don’t build a whole new panel, I’m definitely going to put a hinge and quick releases on the existing one.
